This Time Around

It has been a little weird to consider myself high-risk. I had hoped and prayed that I wouldn't go through what I did with Noah this time. Still no one can say if it will happen again, but we are taking all of the precautions. Just in case.

It has been reassuring to know that if preeclampsia does happen again we should be able to catch it a lot faster and take action. I practically had a panic attack on the way to my first appointment, but by the end of that visit I was feeling confident and well cared for by my doctor.

The plan was that at 20 weeks we would start to keep a closer watch on me. (Preeclampsia usually doesn't start until after 20 weeks.) I would begin to visit my doctor every other week, start to get specialty sonograms monthly (later increasing to weekly), and get blood and urine tests ran to get a baseline to run future test by. Right on schedule my blood pressure started creeping up. So on top of the normal plan, I was also put on blood pressure medicine on top of my daily baby aspirin.

It has been six weeks since this kicked in and it has been interesting. I had to purchase a weekly pill box to make sure that I was remembering all of my pills. I have spent way too much time driving to the hospital to see my doctor and get sonograms, and it's about to get worse. But it is all worth it. Because it just reassures me that I am well taken care of and that I am taking all of the steps to make sure that me and little Sophie are healthy, and really that is all that matters.

I know that there are other women that have trouble with their pregnancies too, some a lot more than me, and that I am not alone. I just hope to share my experiences and my story to reach out to other moms like me. And to give others insight on what high-risk pregnancies can look like.  xo, Britt

My Busy Boy: Spaghetti Activity

Noah is a busy little guy. He is constantly moving (and getting into everything). I have been trying to come up with activities that can keep him busy and that really help him learn or work on his hand-eye coordination.

He was "helping" me cook spaghetti the other night and I decided that I needed something for him to do while I finished up dinner. I had a shaker that I recently picked up at the thrift store. I took the shaker and placed a few raw spaghetti noodles in the holes. I also placed a few noodles next to the shaker on the tray of his highchair. I basically just let Noah figure it out on his own. He just started by pulling one of the noodles out and then putting it back in. This kept him busy for about 15 minutes. Plenty of time for me to finish up dinner.

Noah has pretty great hand-eye coordination for his age and he is very motivated to do activities as long as I cheer him on as he does well. So there was a lot of clapping involved :) See Noah's video on instagram.

I love that I have found fun and easy activities for Noah to help him learn and give me a little time to get something done. I also found out the boy loves to eat raw noodles :) Happy Tuesday lovelies!  xo, Britt + Noah

Attempting a Daily Schedule

Making a schedule as a work-at-home momma is nearly impossible. I had it in my head when I first stayed home that we would come up with a daily schedule to keep us busy and doing all kinds of things. The reality is that its really all about going with the flow. In the past three weeks between home showings, baby two appointments, work, and everything else we have going on every single day has been completely different.

This hasn't made me give up yet though. I have accepted that my days are never going to go exactly as planned, but I still like feeling like I have that structure there to strive for. I helps me make sure that I am not spending too much time working and enough time playing and doing activities with the little man. I mean that is the reason I have wanted to stay home for so long.

Like I said, this is a work in progress. There has not been a day yet that has actually followed this exactly. But I like to use it as a guide for myself. I am sure that its will keep adjusting as I learn and we go through changes. Follow along with my adventure with Noah on instagram! xo, Britt
