Labor Day weekend we went to Santa-Cali-Gon Days in Independence, Missouri. It is an event that is held every Labor Day weekend. There are food vendors, craft booths, bands, and just all kinds of fun stuff. We love checking everything out, including some really good people watching. :) But that's besides the point ...
In one of the booths, I spotted this awesome bag that I decided that I just had to have. Once I got to the booth and started looking around I realized that all of items were hand made. After spending a little more time in the booth, I realized that I wanted to support their mission.
All of the items from Project Lydia are handmade by women in Uganda. "The project helps local widows and abandoned women overcome adversity and thrive in every area of their lives. PROJECT LYDIA teaches skills, provides a spiritual support system, and opens doors for the women to support their families. The women meet weekly to work on projects together which are sold around the world."
My bag is made from hand-dyed material on the outside and then made from a trouser material on the inside. The women dye the material and sew the bags themselves. It is adorned with a handmade recycled paper bead.
