DIY Tacky Christmas Decor

This week we are preparing for our annual ugly Christmas sweater party. We get super into it and love getting everything set up to have the perfect event! To start off, we have a few of our favorite Christmas decor projects.

Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

We had this super "great idea" that was total fail. So we had a tall vase and a twig that we had nothing to use them for ... so of course we decided to just go with it.

We put some beaded garland into the vase to hold the twig up. Then we used a needle, thread, and some pom-poms to make a fun little garland to decorate it. Its so simple, but it is tacky and fun too.

We feel like it adds some fun to our mantel.

Tacky Chandelier

So to go along with our ugly sweater party we decided to add a few other fun and tacky decorations. We added some fun garland and bows to the chandelier ... tacky we know, but we like it :)

Tacky Deer Head

And then we also had to included our deer head in all the tacky fun so he got dressed up too.

DIY Gift Wrapping Inspiration

Every year I get super into wrapping my gifts for Christmas. I really love for everything to coordinate and look good sitting under my tree ... I know, weird right! Ha ha! So this year I really wanted to step up my game. Really personalize my gifts and make them look so cute at the same time. So here is what I decided to do.

DIY Christmas Wrapping Inspiration

Each gift is wrapped in brown kraft paper, but each piece is cut and then there is something special drawn or written on each one. Then using random little Christmas decor, each gift is customized. One one I strung some red, green, and white pom-poms. While on another I used small golden gift bows. Your options are basically endless.

I realize that if you are wrapping a ton of gifts this is a little crazy, but you could definitely do it on a smaller scale. Like maybe just pick a few special people to try it out on. And keep in mind that this can be done anytime a gift is needed ... not just Christmas ... even though I am totally digging these gifts right now!

I love things that are so simple but add so much personality and character. It will make someone feel good to get a gift wrapped with so much care and thought put into it. Just be sure your wrapping doesn't outshine the gift! Ha ha! Just kidding.

Well I have a lot more wrapping to get done in like ... 22 days ... so bye :)

DIY Merry + Bright Door Hanger

We really liked our DIY fall door hanger, but we love Christmas so we could not wait to get our new one up!!

It's awesome being able to see this fun banner on the front door when we get home!

Here's what you need:

  • canvas
  • scissors
  • hotglue gun
  • decorative edging
  • paint
  • paintbrush
  • freezer paper
  • iron
  • x-acto

After cutting out the shape we wanted, we used the hot glue gun to attach the decorative edging.

Then we put hot glue along the top of the canvas and folded about an inch over the dowel rod.

Next we printed out "Merry + Bright" on freezer paper. Then we cut out all of the letters with an x-acto.

We used our iron to adhere the wax paper to the canvas. Then filled in the letters with paint.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

Yay! It's finally December! Of course we have a lot of great Christmas ideas coming your way. So stay tuned through out this whole month so you can get lots of fun decorating ideas, recipes, and other fun projects. We LOVE Christmas and have so many amazing ideas for all of you to try. But before we get started we wanted to share our fun weekend adventure.

This weekend we went and cut down our very first real Christmas tree! Yes you read that correctly, we cut down our own tree! It was a lot of fun and we recommend it to anyone who has a tree farm near them. If you don't believe us scroll through our pictures to see, or better yet, go cut down your own! :)

At the farm you get to walk through rows and rows of trees until you find the perfect one for your family! At first Noah wasn't too impressed, so he napped as we searched for a tree.

After awhile of us looking and comparing the trees we deemed perfect for us, Noah finally woke up to help us decide which one to take home. After all, we all had to agree on the same tree.

Finally, we all agreed on this one. It may seem silly, but it was 'the one', the perfect tree. :)

After we chose the tree, it was time to chop it down and take it home!

But don't worry, we let Jake do that part!

Next we had to drag the tree up the hill to be picked up by the tractor. We even got to take a short hay ride back to the barn. Once we arrived at the barn our tree was shaken, netted, and ready to go home!

We took our tree home and immediately put it up. We strung popcorn and decorated the tree while enjoying Christmas music. It was a really great way to kick off this crazy month. And the real tree looks much better than any store bought tree we could have gotten.
